Getting your COVID-19 vaccination
January 17, 2022

Children aged 5 to 11

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) provisionally approved the Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years on 5 December. You can read more about this announcement in the TGA statement.

Appointments for children aged 5 to 11 years will be available from 10 January through Lotus Family Clinic (Book Online). If you can’t find an appropriate appointment, please check back regularly as more appointments will become available.

Vaccinating children can help reduce community transmission and help prevent children passing the virus onto younger siblings, grandparents and the wider community. Find out more about ATAGI advice for this age group and COVID-19 vaccine information for children, teens and parents/guardians.

Two doses of the same vaccine

To be fully vaccinated, you need to have 2 doses of the same vaccine.

You cannot mix vaccines in your primary course of vaccination, unless you have experienced a severe reaction from the first dose.

Find out more about booster doses for people aged 18 years and older and third doses for people with severe immunocompromise.

Access to Comirnaty (Pfizer)

You can book an appointment for the Pfizer vaccine if you are 12 years old or over. Appointments for children aged 5 to 11 years start from 10 January.

Access to Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca)

You can book an appointment for the AstraZeneca vaccine if you are:

  • 60 years old and over
  • 18 to 59 years old – you can choose to have AstraZeneca after discussing with your health professional.

If you are in one of these priority groups, please identify yourself to your chosen vaccination provider so they can help you to get your vaccination as soon as possible:

  • people with disability
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
